Mara Jade Skywalker is a prominent character in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, debuting in Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel, Heir to the Empire. Initially an agent of Emperor Palpatine, she served as his "Hand," carrying out his commands and trained in the ways of the Force.
After Palpatine's death at the Battle of Endor, Mara was released from her mental commands, but driven by a final order to kill Luke Skywalker. Over time, she overcame this directive, learning to trust and respect Luke.
Eventually, Mara and Luke married, solidifying her place within the Skywalker family. She became a powerful Jedi Master and had a son, Ben Skywalker.
